 Poetry of the city

These oil paints becomes a particular material, oil matter. With it, he develops a personal process of oil sculpture on canvas. By studying certain paintings by Matisse, he notes the use of the brush against the grain. The brush, taken backwards, models the paint in depth with its tip.
Eloi draws inspiration from this and implements his own mastered technique, sculpting the line in oil. He brings out the fibers, the veins of the oil-matter, engaging in a close combat with it.
Lines, furrows, chisels, and hollows are all motifs that draw us into the painting.
"I paint daydreams," says Derôme, who invents worlds that are both explored and yet to be deciphered.
From this emerge impressions of erasure, crumbling, scraping, and grazing.
His paintings are traces of the passing life in our society, from the antique fresco to the eroded wall.
